100 days of Government? “A complete failure,” shoots Carneiro

In Braga, during the presentation of the PS-PAN coalition candidate for the local council, José Luís Carneiro highlighted the issues in health and housing as examples of the Government’s “failure.”

“It was yesterday [Saturday] I believe 100 days of Dr. Luís Montenegro’s Government. And it has been 100 days of complete failure of the policies he had promised for Portugal,” he emphasized.

Carneiro cited obstetrics emergencies as an example.

“He promised to solve health issues, yet today, unfortunately, we received the worst news regarding the Setúbal district, as once again there are no obstetrics services available. We learned that infant mortality has increased in this district, likely due to the lack of obstetrics and gynecology services,” he stated.

He recalled proposing a hospital emergency coordination unit to ensure mothers can give birth safely and predictably, but received no response from the Government.

“To this day, we do not know where it was established; I believe it was not implemented, and today the head of the Portuguese Medical Association stated that it is completely unacceptable for the Government to remain without an adequate response in such a vital area,” he added.

Regarding the blame placed on temporary doctors, Carneiro remarked, “It is the lack of accountability to which the Government has accustomed us.”

“Eleven people died following the failures after the INEM strike, and the Government blamed everyone, from the driver to the technical assistant, but neither the Health Minister nor the Prime Minister took responsibility. The same is happening now in Setúbal,” he criticized.

This summer’s fires were another example of the lack of accountability pointed out by the PS leader.
