1,147 incidents recorded by 12 o’clock due to bad weather

Emergency response authorities reported a total of 700 flood-related incidents, with 658 occurring in the district of Lisbon, according to statements made at 12:30 PM.

In Lisbon, fire services recorded 211 incidents, as noted by Elísio Pereira.

The Algarve region also experienced significant weather-related disruptions, with 102 incidents, alongside Greater Lisbon and the Setúbal Peninsula, which were heavily affected by the weather.

Elísio Pereira highlighted a significant increase in incidents, about a hundred more between 10 AM and 12 PM, though the pace was slower than during the night and early morning hours.

“The trend indicates an improvement in weather conditions,” he stated.

On Tuesday, a woman sustained serious injuries in the Barcarena area, within the Oeiras municipality, known for its vulnerability to severe weather.

The Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) issued a red alert for Faro district until 10 AM today, later downgraded to orange until 3 PM.

Due to forecasts of heavy rain and thunderstorms, the districts of Évora, Setúbal, and Beja were also placed under an orange alert until 3 PM today.

Santarém and Lisbon were under a yellow alert until noon, while Castelo Branco and Portalegre remained on yellow alert until 3 PM.

The IPMA designates a red alert for extreme weather risk situations.

The orange alert signifies a moderate to high risk, while the yellow alert indicates risk for certain activities dependent on weather conditions.
