A 13-year-old boy was transported to a hospital this Sunday afternoon, July 13, after diving and “hitting his head on the sand” at Consolação Beach, in the municipality of Peniche.
The German teenager reportedly suffered from “severe pain in the upper part of the spine,” according to the National Maritime Authority (AMN), in a statement addressed to newsrooms.
The alert was issued at 5:05 p.m. by the lifeguards on duty at the beach, prompting the mobilization of the ‘Seawatch’ project elements and the emergency medical service INEM.
“Upon arrival, it was found that the lifeguards had promptly attended to the victim, having fitted him with a cervical collar,” stated the AMN.
With the support of the lifeguards, ‘Seawatch’ project members immobilized the teenager, who was transported to the INEM ambulance in an Amarok vehicle.
The boy was then taken to a hospital.
