16-year-old arrested for theft and driving without a license. He is a repeat offender.

A 16-year-old teenager was arrested on Thursday, July 10, on suspicion of committing six robberies, one theft, one criminal damage, and one case of driving without a legal license in Seixal.

The minor had already been detained earlier for being strongly suspected of committing three robberies on June 5, under a detention warrant, according to a statement by the Public Security Police (PSP) released on Friday.

At that time, the teenager was required to report to the local police station three times a week. However, due to “the persistence of the defendant in committing the offenses, which were causing increased feelings of insecurity and high social alarm,” the authorities issued a new arrest warrant outside of a flagrant situation.

This time, the young man was brought before a judicial interrogation and has been placed in preventive custody.

This operation was conducted by the Setúbal District Command through the Criminal Investigation Squad of the Seixal Police Division.

Despite “a certain calm” in serious crimes against life and physical integrity by young people in a group context, the report identified that the crimes “are increasingly severe and committed by individuals who are increasingly younger, where the value of human life holds no relevance.”
