17-year-old girl assaults ex-girlfriend in Algés. Wanted to rekindle the relationship.

A 17-year-old girl was arrested in Algés, Oeiras, on suspicion of domestic violence against her former partner, the Public Security Police (PSP) revealed on Friday in a statement.

The police reported that the arrest happened in the early evening of June 23, following a report of alleged assaults between two young women near a restaurant in Algés.

Upon arrival, officers found that one of the girls showed visible signs of aggression, including a nosebleed and bruises, and was in a state of high anxiety and fear.

After speaking with those involved, the police determined that the aggressor, the victim’s former partner, “attempted to forcibly resume the relationship” and “reacted with physical violence” after her request was denied.

The victim also told the police about “previous episodes of intimidating behavior, psychological pressure, and material damage” inflicted by the aggressor, and revealed that the aggressor frequently uses drugs.

The suspect was thus detained and brought before a judicial inquiry, ultimately being held in preventive detention, the most severe coercive measure.

On Thursday, the PSP also disclosed another case of violence among minors who were ex-partners.

In that incident, the victim, a 17-year-old, was pushed against a glass door and punched by her ex-boyfriend and his current partner after they approached the school where the girl studies.

The minor was seriously injured and underwent three surgeries.

Last year alone, the PSP arrested 1,281 people for the crime of domestic violence, marking a 32% increase over the previous year, with 15,781 complaints registered, signifying a 1.8% rise.

The PSP stresses the importance of victims and witnesses being willing to report instances of domestic violence, highlighting that “all reported situations are immediately subject to risk assessment to promptly adopt the necessary security and protection measures for the victim as required for each specific case.”

This security force states that complaints about domestic violence can be made by anyone via the email “vi****************@*sp.pt” or in person at PSP stations.

Violent behaviors—physical, verbal, or psychological—are the essence of the crime of domestic violence.
