The National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority (ANEPC) reported that from 2:00 PM Wednesday to 5:00 PM today, there have been significant occurrences due to severe weather. The most affected sub-regions include the Setúbal Peninsula with 498 incidents, Greater Lisbon with 184, and Lezíria do Tejo with 151.
Key incidents involved 1,111 floods, 311 fallen trees, 190 road cleanings, 130 structural collapses, and 121 landslides.
Two fatalities occurred in Fernão Ferro, in Seixal, district of Setúbal, due to a house flooding, and one minor injury was reported from a fallen tree in Serpa, district of Beja.
As a result of the adverse weather, three people were displaced in Abrantes (district of Santarém) and one in Pombal (district of Leiria).
Responding to these occurrences, 5,721 operatives were deployed, supported by 2,192 vehicles.
The ANEPC also emphasizes that adverse weather effects can be mitigated by adopting preventive behaviors, recommending measures such as clearing drainage systems, securing loose structures, exercising caution in wooded and riparian areas, and being attentive while driving.
A spokesperson from E-Redes indicated that by 6:30 PM, around 4,500 customers were without electricity, with the most affected districts being Viseu, Guarda, Castelo Branco, and Faro.
Since Wednesday, Depression Cláudia has impacted mainland Portugal and the Madeira Archipelago with heavy rain, strong winds, and maritime agitation, according to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA).
The IPMA issued a red warning for intense and persistent rain in the districts of Santarém, Setúbal (until 10:00 AM), and Faro (until 3:00 PM).
