A 19-year-old man was fatally stabbed in the early hours of Saturday near the Bar Académico in Braga, as confirmed by the Police of Public Security (PSP).
The teenager, identified as Manuel Gonçalves, was attacked after intervening to prevent a group from placing drugs into the drinks of other young women at the nightclub. Following the incident, he alerted security personnel, which led to an assault on him. Subsequently, he called the PSP. Both the involved groups, including the victim and his friends, were expelled from the bar. The confrontation continued outside, resulting in the fatal stabbing of the young man by an individual who then fled.
The victim, a student at D. Maria II Secondary School, was transported to a hospital but succumbed to his injuries.
On social media, his school in Braga expressed their sorrow over his death, acknowledging him as a student of the 12th grade. “It is with great sadness and shock that we announce the passing of our student Manuel de Oliveira Gonçalves,” the statement read.
The PSP has confirmed that the case is now under the jurisdiction of the Judiciary Police (PJ).
