2026. Porto Municipal Theatre proposes 11 premieres among 40 shows.

“From January 23 to 25, we celebrate the 94th anniversary of the Rivoli Theatre with a free program throughout the weekend,” announced Drew Klein, the artistic director of Performing Arts at Ágora, during a press conference at Rivoli to present the new season of Porto Municipal Theatre (TMP) for the upcoming year.

On the 94th anniversary of the Rivoli Theatre, Drew Klein highlighted the national premiere of the dance show “My Fierce Ignorant Step” by Greek artist Christos Papadopoulos, which celebrates the “euphoria of being alive” with 10 dancers creating an “ecstatic soundscape,” exploring how “movement transforms into a song that makes bodies pulse,” as noted in the press release.

Other highlights for the anniversary include the premiere of “Lugares” by Coletivo Espaço Invisível and the “Concerto-poético: Uma celebração,” featuring Noirserv and Mia Tomé. This event is an intimate recital dedicated to the city of Porto, featuring the words of Ana Luísa Amaral, Filipa Leal, and Manuel António Pina.

Before the Rivoli anniversary program, the new TMP season kicks off on January 16 and 17 with “Um Inimigo do Povo” by Marco Martins, inspired by Henrik Ibsen’s work, drawing parallels with the police operation on Rua do Benformoso in Lisbon in 2024, where 60 immigrants were forced to stand against the wall with their hands on their heads.

The season also caters to younger audiences, with “Perder” by Catarina Sobral scheduled for January 17, a creation aimed at children aged three and up, telling the story of the character Clarice preparing to go camping with her grandmother.

The TMP season for 2026 will feature 40 performances, including 15 co-productions and 11 premieres (five absolute and six national).

In March, Drew Klein highlighted the special session for the 25th anniversary of Quintas de Leitura on March 5, under the theme “The verb is the brother of freedom, it is truly freedom,” and the show “Os Maias” by Fernando Duarte, performed by the National Ballet Company.

Also in March, the show “Antiprincesas — Catarina Eufémia” by Cláudia Gaiolas takes inspiration from the “Antiprincesas” book collection about women who made history.

“Amok” by the Ensemble Sociedade de Atores, directed by Jorge Pinto with choreography by Deeogo Oliveira, combines dancers, musicians, and actors in a multidisciplinary performance. “Rara” by Catarina Miranda/Companhia Instável and “Inhale Delerium Exhale” are among other premieres for the 2026 season, concluding in June with “Borda” by Brazilian choreographer Lia Rodrigues, conceived in the heart of the Maré favela in Rio de Janeiro.

The 2026 season will include the 10th edition of the Dias da Dança festival, taking place from April 8 to 19, and the Trengo – Porto Circus Festival, from June 19 to 20.

The season also features musical performances by Estrutura with Capicua, Raquel Martins with her new album, O Gringo Sou Eu with the new album “Receita do povo,” and the Catalan duo Los Sara Fontan.

Tickets for the upcoming season are available starting today at the box offices of Teatro Rivoli and Teatro Campo Alegre and online.
