A 22-year-old man was rescued on Thursday by the Portuguese Navy after he “allegedly” fell from the cliff at Cabo da Roca viewpoint in Sintra, Lisbon district.
This incident occurred in the afternoon, and the alert was raised by the Captain of the Port of Cascais, who informed the Navy that “the young man, an American national, had fallen to sea level.”
A team of firefighters was immediately dispatched to the site, and the EH-101 helicopter of the Portuguese Air Force (FAP) was activated.
“The victim, after being rescued, was transported to Aeródromo de Trânsito n.º1 in Portela, where he landed around 3:30 PM, received medical assistance from INEM, and was transported to a hospital,” detailed the Navy, which coordinated the rescue through the Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center of Lisbon (MRCC Lisbon).
Authorities further emphasize that through its Maritime Search and Rescue Centers, the Navy ensures “a continuous response in national maritime areas to incidents that may occur 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.”
