235 occurrences recorded due to bad weather in Portugal until 4 p.m.

Portugal’s mainland experienced 235 incidents related to adverse weather conditions between midnight and 4 p.m. on Tuesday, mainly involving floods and structural collapses caused by wind, according to the National Authority for Civil Protection (ANEPC).

The majority of incidents were reported in Greater Lisbon (51) and the West region (51), ANEPC confirmed.

Portugal’s mainland and the Madeira archipelago have been affected by rain, wind, and maritime agitation due to the impact of depression Bram, prompting alerts from the Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA).

The parish of Fernão Ferro, in the Seixal municipality, once again suffered flooding due to heavy rains, leading to road closures on parts of the National Road (EN378).

In Aveiro, damages include the sinking of a moliceiro at the Costa Nova Yacht Club due to strong rain and waves.

In Madeira, all classified hiking paths were closed for safety reasons due to the forecasted bad weather in the archipelago, as reported by Madeira’s Institute of Forests and Nature Conservation (IFCN).

In a statement, IPMA detailed that depression Bram, named by the Irish Meteorological Service, formed in the western Atlantic and is moving east towards the Azores archipelago before continuing towards Ireland.

According to IPMA, “this depression is associated with a cold front of moderate to strong activity, which will gradually cross the mainland from the northwest to the southeast, reaching the southern region only during the night and morning of December 10.”

The situation will bring persistent, sometimes heavy, rain starting early in the morning in Minho and Douro Litoral, spreading gradually to other regions.

Additionally, this episode will be accompanied by strong winds from the south along the west coast and in highlands until mid-afternoon, with gusts ranging from 70 to 90 kilometers per hour, especially in the Northern and Central regions.
