The current voter turnout percentage surpasses that of the last general elections, which took place on March 10, 2024, where the voter attendance rate by the same hour was estimated at 25.21%.
The Secretariat-General of the Ministry of Internal Administration (SGMAI) states that 10.8 million voters are eligible to cast their votes in today’s early legislative elections.
Based on the voter turnout percentage of 25.56%, it is estimated that approximately 2.76 million voters participated by 12:00 PM.
Last Sunday, over 314,000 out of the 333,347 registered voters for early voting exercised their right to vote, which corresponds to a turnout rate of 94.45%, according to a report sent to Lusa by SGMAI.
A total of 230 deputies will be elected across 22 electoral constituencies, with 18 in mainland Portugal and the remainder in the Azores, Madeira, Europe, and outside Europe. The electoral event is expected to cost approximately 26.5 million euros.
Twenty-one political forces are competing in these elections, which is three more than in the elections of March last year.
Polling stations will remain open until 7:00 PM in mainland Portugal and Madeira, while in the Azores, they will close an hour later due to the time difference.
