
In a statement, the GNR announced the arrest following a domestic violence complaint. Upon arrival at the scene, officers learned that a 32-year-old woman had been threatened with a weapon and had her mobile phone and bank card stolen by her partner.
Through police investigations, the suspect was located and intercepted in possession of the stolen items and a bladed weapon. The belongings were subsequently returned to the victim.
The detainee was made an official suspect, and the case was reported to the Judicial Court of Mafra.
The GNR emphasizes that “domestic violence is a public crime, and reporting it is a collective responsibility.” Reports can be made through the electronic complaint portal, by calling 112, or at the nearest GNR post to the residence.
On the day marking the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, the Public Security Police (PSP) reported that from January 1st to Sunday, they recorded 14,930 complaints related to domestic violence within their jurisdiction and arrested 1,157 suspects, 599 of whom were caught in the act and 558 out of the act.
The PSP also reported that between 2020 and 2024, they recorded over 75,200 domestic violence incidents. They conducted 203,540 victim support contacts, created over 149,000 safety plans for the victims, and carried out 62,890 patrols near the homes and workplaces of the victims.
