250-gram coffee package exceeds 5 euros. Increased by 67 cents.

Food inflation continues to impact consumers, with the price of ground roasted coffee experiencing a notable increase of 67 cents, marking a 15% rise last week. A report from DECO PROteste, released on Thursday, August 14, indicates that “a 250-gram package of coffee now costs 5.16 euros.” 

This week, coffee has reached “the highest price of the year.” Further DECO PROteste data reveals that “in the first week of the year, the same coffee package cost consumers 3.81 euros, 1.35 euros less (down 35%).” 

Looking back approximately three years, “the product was priced at 2.99 euros, a reduction of 2.16 euros (down 72%).”

The increase in coffee prices is not isolated. Grocery shopping costs nearly 21 euros more compared to the previous year. DECO PROteste released these findings on Thursday as part of their weekly price monitoring. 

Data shows a continuous rise in the cost of the food basket: “As of August 13, this week’s prices reached 244.30 euros, an increase of 3.65 euros (1.52%) from the previous week.” This marks “one of the highest prices” since the consumer protection organization began tracking these essential goods.

Which products saw the most significant price increases? 

During the week of August 6 to 13, aside from ground roasted coffee (up 15%), products with the highest percentage price increases included cereal flakes (up 18%), whole grains (up 12%), and frozen peas (up 10%).

And since the beginning of the year? What has increased the most?

Comparing prices this week up to August 13 with the first week of the year, January 1, 2025, ground roasted coffee saw the highest percentage increase (up 35%), followed by eggs (up 28%) and broccoli (up 27%).

It’s notable that the analyzed basket consists of 63 essential food products, including meat, frozen foods, fruits and vegetables, dairy, groceries, and fish. Among them are items such as turkey, chicken, mackerel, hake, onion, potato, carrot, banana, apple, orange, rice, pasta, sugar, ham, milk, cheese, butter, and many others.
