The president of the association and captain of the April Revolution, Vasco Lourenço, confirmed today that there are no changes from the association’s side regarding the planned celebrations.
“The [parade] is confirmed, and everything remains unchanged on our part,” stated the April Revolution captain.
Prime Minister Luís Montenegro announced today that the government will declare three days of national mourning for Pope Francis’ death, scheduled from April 24 to 26, coinciding with the day of the funeral.
President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa indicated that the traditional solemn session commemorating April 25 in the Assembly of the Republic will continue. He emphasized that the plan is “to maintain the session, beginning with a condolence vote for Pope Francis’ death.”
Among the various events commemorating April 25, 1974, across the country, Lisbon traditionally hosts a popular parade organized by a promoting committee, which includes dozens of entities, with the Association 25 de Abril leading the initiative.
