Catholic Poll. Majority of respondents want TAP privatized
For 61 percent of those questioned in the survey carried out by the Catholic University for RTP, Antena 1 and Público, the best scenario for the country would be the privatization of TAP. When asked about the performance of different personalities in the management of the airline, no one received a positive average rating from the respondents.
Only 27% of the responses to this survey indicate that it is an advantage for Portugal to have TAP as a public company. 61% think it should be private, and 12% of the answers fall into the “don’t know/no answer” category.
The survey was conducted between February 9 and February 17, 2023. A total of 1002 valid surveys were obtained, with a margin of error of 3.1% and a confidence level of 95%.
When asked to evaluate the performance of different personalities in the management of TAP, on a scale from 0 to 20, the highest score obtained is 7.5, attributed to António Costa, the incumbent Prime Minister. Still, it is far from 10, a value above which the average evaluation would be positive.
The lowest score is given to the management of TAP, 5.6, on a scale of 0 to 20.
The former Minister of Infrastructure, Pedro Nuno Santos, scores slightly better, 6.4, on the same scale. The Minister of Finance, Fernando Medina, scores 7.1.
Table
The Católica survey broke down these values, and dividing the number of positive evaluations (equal to or greater than 10) by the total number of evaluations, shows that António Costa has 42% positive evaluations, Fernando Medina 38%, Pedro Nuno Santos 29% and the TAP administration 27%.
