
A 27-year-old man has been arrested by the Judiciary Police (PJ) in Lisbon on suspicion of raping a “childhood friend” at a residence in the city of Amadora.
In a statement released to newsrooms on Wednesday, the PJ detailed that the crime occurred last Friday, October 10th, following a gathering at the home of an acquaintance, where the victim, a 24-year-old woman, “was forced to engage in significant sexual acts through violence and serious threats”.
The young woman, “despite struggling,” eventually “succumbed to the physical superiority of the aggressor”.
According to the statement, the victim decided to file a formal complaint with the Public Security Police (PSP), which “immediately contacted the PJ, as the crime falls under the reserved jurisdiction of this police force”.
The victim was then taken to a hospital, “where she received medical care and underwent a sexual examination by the National Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences. Authorities also collected evidence at the crime scene.
The suspect, accused of committing a rape, will appear for the first interrogation of the detained defendant, for the purpose of applying coercive measures.
