The Portalegre Territorial Command of the GNR announced the detention of a suspect on Monday by the Investigation and Support Center for Specific Victims (NIAVE) of the security force.
“In the framework of a domestic violence investigation, the GNR officers conducted police activities that revealed the suspect was perpetrating psychological and physical violence against the victim,” stated the GNR.
During the operation conducted on Monday, the officers executed two residential searches, resulting in the man’s arrest and the seizure of a shotgun, two air guns, and a cartridge.
The detainee was brought to the Judicial Court of Portalegre and was released, subject to several coercive measures, such as a restriction prohibiting him from approaching the victim within a radius of 300 meters, to be enforced by electronic monitoring bracelet.
The individual is also barred from contacting the victim by any means or through others, and from acquiring, possessing, using, or carrying any kind of weapon.
The defendant must also report weekly to the police station in his residential area and is compelled to undergo alcohol dependency treatment.
