A 28-year-old man was rescued aboard a merchant ship off the coast of Portimão, Algarve, on Saturday, November 8, after allegedly suffering a heart attack.
The National Maritime Authority (AMN) stated in a communiqué that the alert was received at 5:14 PM through the Lisbon Maritime Rescue Coordination Center (MRCC), “informing of the need to carry out a medical rescue.”
As a result, “the crew from the Portimão Lifeboat Station, elements of the Portimão Maritime Police Local Command,” along with the INEM and Portimão Volunteer Firefighters, were immediately activated.
Upon reaching the ship, they “proceeded with the rescue of the victim” to the Portimão Marina. The man, a Lebanese national, was transported to a hospital by the firefighters.
