A foreign national with authorization from the Directorate-General for Food and Veterinary (DGAV) for industrial cannabis cultivation intended for fiber production in Mafra, Lisbon district, was highlighted by the police force in a statement.
The operation was conducted by the PJ’s National Drug Trafficking Unit, with the investigation commencing approximately six months ago, identifying the area where the suspect cultivated cannabis with tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) levels exceeding legal limits.
The PJ also determined that the suspect sold the product via mail, as stated in the press release.
During home searches conducted on Tuesday, authorities seized 18 kilograms of cannabis leaves and heads, numerous tools used in production, packaging, and distribution of the drug, in addition to a large sum of cash, according to the PJ.
The investigation, supported by the DGAV, continues under the PJ, with the inquiry led by the DIAP of the Lisbon Northwest Region in Sintra.
The detained individual will appear for the initial judicial interrogation to learn the coercive measures.
