The Socialist Party (PS) candidate for the Lisbon City Council, Alexandra Leitão, criticized the plan to expand Lisbon airport to a maximum limit of 45 movements per hour, which was submitted by ANA Aeroportos to the Government. She noted that this would punish the city, “which is already experiencing an unsustainable situation of noise and pollution.”
“The movements at Humberto Delgado Airport will indeed increase to 45 flights per hour, punishing a city that is already living in an unsustainable situation of noise and pollution, with serious impacts on health and quality of life,” wrote the socialist on Wednesday on the X social network (formerly Twitter).
She questioned, “Will Carlos Moedas break his deafening silence to defend those living in Lisbon?”
The issue at hand is the Expansion Plan for Humberto Delgado Airport in Lisbon, resulting from the Government’s decision to enhance Portela’s capacity until the Luís de Camões Airport in the Alcochete Firing Range becomes operational, “which is expected to happen in about ten years.”
This plan “includes all the necessary investments to expand the declared capacity of Humberto Delgado Airport to the maximum limit of 45 movements per hour.”

The Ministry of Infrastructure and Housing stated, in a communiqué, that the plan “was submitted on time” by ANA Aeroportos last Friday.
