The Polícia Judiciária (PJ) announced on Friday the arrest of three men, aged between 18 and 21, suspected of raping a 51-year-old woman at gunpoint in her home in Montijo, in April.
According to a PJ statement, the arrests followed a police operation conducted under the appropriate warrants. The men are suspected of the crimes of rape and sexual coercion.
The ongoing investigation originates from a report made by the victim last April at the Montijo PSP station, in which she stated she was raped in her home by the three men at gunpoint, the authority disclosed.
During the operation, the PJ conducted eleven searches, four in residences and seven elsewhere, resulting in the arrest of a 21-year-old man for possession of a prohibited weapon and a 51-year-old woman for drug trafficking.
The five detainees, one with a criminal record, will appear for an initial judicial hearing to determine appropriate coercive measures.
The PJ further stated that both the suspects and the victim reside in the same neighborhood.
The investigation is overseen by the DIAP of Montijo.
