A 31-year-old man was arrested on Thursday in Amadora on suspicion of sexually abusing his 6-year-old niece.
Authorities, in a statement to Notícias ao Minuto, detailed that the victim’s father filed a complaint with the Polícia de Segurança Pública (PSP), activating the Polícia Judiciária (PJ).
Investigators immediately ensured the separation of the victim from the aggressor and collected evidence.
During the investigation, the PJ reported that “it was possible to ascertain that the sexual abuse allegedly occurred during the first two weeks of April” in the home, described as being in “very precarious” conditions, where the girl and her uncle lived along with other family members, including other children.
The man is said to have exploited the familial relationship and the trust he gained from the child to subject her to “notable sexual acts” during moments when other household members were absent or distracted.
The crimes were only uncovered after the girl “confided” in her father, who resides in a different household.
Following his initial judicial interrogation, the suspect was remanded in custody under the most severe measure of preventive detention.
