62 people rescued in two boats near the Canaries

The first group of five migrants from the Maghreb was taken to the port of Arguineguín, where they received medical assistance and were reported to be in good health.

Later, a fishing vessel spotted an inflatable boat with 57 people on board, including four women, of sub-Saharan origin, five miles southeast of Arrecife (Lanzarote).

A Maritime Rescue boat proceeded to rescue them and transported the migrants to the port of Arrecife, where they were attended to by medical services on the Atlantic islands.

In the Mediterranean, 29 people traveling on a boat located 43 miles south of the island of Formentera were rescued on Friday.

The emergency services located the boat with the 29 individuals of sub-Saharan origin on board, as reported by the Government Delegation in the Balearic Islands.

Since January, 294 boats have arrived irregularly on the coasts of the Balearic Islands, with a total of 5,465 migrants transported.

Last year, 5,882 migrants arrived in the archipelago by sea, according to the National Security Annual Report by the Ministry of the Interior.
