
A 64-year-old Portuguese citizen died Thursday following a vehicle accident in Villeret, Switzerland. According to the Bern Cantonal Police, the man was a passenger, while the driver sustained only minor injuries.
The alarm for the van accident on Mont-Crisoin road in Villeret was raised at 7:50 a.m. local time (6:50 a.m. in Lisbon).
At the scene, emergency services reported that a van was found overturned on its right side, and both occupants were injured.
“Despite emergency measures taken by the intervention teams, the passenger, who was severely injured, died at the scene. He was a 64-year-old Portuguese resident in the canton of Bern,” the police stated in a release.
The driver “was slightly injured” and received assistance at the scene before being transported to the hospital.

The causes of the accident are under investigation, but “according to initial information, the van was traveling from Saint-Imier to Tramelan and, for a reason yet to be determined, after a series of curves in the Sergent forest area, it veered off course, hit the left embankment, and overturned onto its side.”
Following the accident, Mont-Crosin road was closed to traffic for several hours.
Two ambulances, a helicopter, firefighters, and a team of psychologists were dispatched to the scene.
