A 72-year-old man was arrested by the Public Security Police (PSP) last Sunday, November 16, in Loures, on suspicion of domestic violence.
In a statement sent to newsrooms on Saturday, PSP noted that officers were called after a domestic violence incident was reported. Upon arrival, they encountered “two visibly emotional victims.”
The victims “confessed they had been subjected to domestic violence for several years” and revealed that “the suspect consumed alcohol in excessive amounts, becoming violent towards the other residents of the household.”
While PSP officers were listening to the victims’ accounts, the suspect, who was not at home at the time, returned, “appearing visibly agitated.”
Upon noticing the presence of the PSP, “the suspect became verbally aggressive,” admitted to hitting the victims, and “added that he would hit them again as soon as the police left.”
The PSP officers attempted to calm the situation, but the “suspect continued his behavior, threatening the victims in the presence of law enforcement officers.”
The man was ultimately arrested and brought before judicial authority, which imposed a restraining order prohibiting him from approaching the victims or their residence within a 500-meter radius.
