Several notable members, including Pedro Roque, leader of the TSD, and Eva Brás Pinho, find themselves in uncertain “grey zones” with non-electable positions according to the latest electoral lists approved by the PSD’s National Council on Wednesday night ahead of the May 18 snap elections.
The official list notably excludes representatives from the Madeira electoral district. Out of the 75 deputies elected on March 10, 2024, from the remaining 21 districts, 58 have been retained in the current lists, representing over 77% continuity.
Fourteen deputies have been left out, including Luís Newton and Carlos Eduardo Reis, who suspended their parliamentary mandates after being indicted by the Public Prosecutor’s Office in connection with the Tutti Frutti case. Others not included are Liliana Reis, previously leading the Castelo Branco list; Telmo Faria, number one for Leiria in 2024; Sónia Ramos, who headed the Évora list; and Emília Cerqueira, who was second for Viana do Castelo.
Ofélia Ramos, deputy for Faro, has been placed in a non-electable position, while António Alberto Machado, representing Vila Real, is absent from the lists.
Former deputy Carlos Peixoto could potentially return to parliament, as he is positioned as number two for the Guarda district, from which the PSD hopes to secure a second seat, an increase from 2024 when only one was won.
The PSD National Council, which lasted less than two hours, unanimously re-nominated Luís Montenegro as the candidate for Prime Minister and confirmed a pre-electoral coalition with the CDS-PP, excluding the PPM as in 2024. The list of deputies was approved with three abstentions.
