A Polícia de Segurança Pública (PSP) successfully located an 83-year-old man who had been missing since Friday, November 21, in the Sobralinho – Alverca area of Vila Franca de Xira.
In a statement, PSP noted that they were alerted to the man’s disappearance as of 3:00 p.m. on Friday and immediately mobilized “all possible operational efforts” to find the individual and “safeguard his health and safety.”
“Given the challenges posed by the night when the disappearance was reported by the victim’s son, in addition to search operations and contacting neighbors and health units, it was not until the morning and early afternoon, following an assessment of the man’s usual routines, that priority search areas could be established,” it stated.
The search involved “various resources and police capabilities” from the Lisbon Metropolitan Command of PSP, and the Special Police Unit, with support from the Professional Firefighters of Alhandra and Alverca do Ribatejo.
After conducting sweeps across several search areas, the testimony of a local resident proved crucial. The woman reported seeing someone matching the elderly man’s description “wandering in that area.” This led to the 83-year-old being found “alive” at 4:25 p.m. on Saturday.
“The victim was found fallen, conscious, and lucid, in what appeared to be a state of hypothermia, but without serious injuries,” and was promptly assisted by firefighters and transported to Vila Franca de Xira Hospital for observation.
