Firefighters were alerted at 11:48 a.m., arriving at the scene in Lanhoso to find a house engulfed in flames. Despite the fire, rescue teams managed to pull the victim from the building and attempted resuscitation efforts, a source explained.
“Shortly after, the death was declared at the scene,” the source added, noting it was unclear whether the victim lived alone.
The circumstances surrounding the fire are under investigation by the Judiciary Police, the source confirmed.
The National Authority for Emergency and Civil Protection reported that 26 operatives, supported by eight vehicles, were deployed to the site.
