A 41-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday in Loures, suspected of being part of an international drug trafficking network.
The Polícia Judiciária (PJ) revealed in a statement that the suspect was detained as part of an investigation that began in 2022. The investigation had already led to the arrest of three port workers allegedly responsible for extracting the drugs from the ship and removing them from the port area.
The case involves the importation of approximately 85 kg of cocaine, which the PJ seized in September 2022 at the port of Leixões aboard a cargo ship originating from Brazil.
The suspect arrested this week will now appear in court to determine appropriate preventive measures.
