A 55-year-old man was arrested last Thursday, August 14, for domestic violence against his parents in Marinha Grande. The Leiria District Command of the Public Security Police (PSP) reported that the suspect, showing “signs of intoxication,” assaulted his father and chased his mother down the street while naked.
In a statement released to the media this Saturday, the PSP explained that the arrest took place at 11:10 PM on Thursday, when they were “called to a residence” due to the “aggressive behavior of a son towards his parents.”
Upon arrival, “the officers observed that the detainee appeared intoxicated” and exhibited “very aggressive behavior,” necessitating the use of handcuffs for “his protection and that of the victims.”
The parents, aged 78 and 79, were “very fearful and concerned,” but shared with the officers the “climate of fear they have been living in.”
That night, the son entered their bedroom, “disturbing them and preventing them from sleeping,” according to the PSP. The father “was physically assaulted with punches to the head” and threatened by the suspect “that he would use an axe to continue the assault.”
“In panic, the mother was forced to flee to the street, where she was pursued by the naked suspect, a fact confirmed by a witness who reported seeing him unclothed and with an erect penis chasing the elderly woman,” the authority explained.
The man was then detained and taken to the Marinha Grande police station, where he “continued his aggressive behavior.” In the detention cells, he “repeatedly kicked the door” and insulted and threatened officers.
The man also damaged a toilet fixture and broke the glass in the holding room door.
According to the report, the suspect had previous records, including complaints of domestic violence against his parents and ex-partner, offenses against sexual freedom and self-determination, and physical assault.
The suspect was brought before the judiciary authority this Saturday and was subjected to the most severe preventive measure – preventive detention.
