Arganil fire re-enters Pampilhosa da Serra near Casal Novo

The mayor of Pampilhosa da Serra, Jorge Custódio, reported that he is heading to the site of a wildfire in the Coimbra district, with a front moving towards Meãs.

“There are reactivations in lines that were previously considered extinguished,” he explained.

The forest fire originated in the neighboring municipality of Arganil, where it ignited in the parish of Piódão at around 5:00 a.m. on Wednesday, allegedly caused by a lightning strike from a dry thunderstorm in that area. It has since affected multiple municipalities.

Early this morning, Pampilhosa da Serra’s Municipal Civil Protection indicated that “there are no people or property at risk” and noted that during the night, the fire had not seen “significant developments” in the upper part of the municipality.

The Special Device for Combating Rural Fires (DECIR) has maintained its highest readiness level of four since August 11, activating the district emergency and civil protection plans for Viseu and Coimbra, as well as municipal plans for Trancoso, Oliveira do Hospital, Arganil, Aguiar da Beira, Sátão, Sernancelhe, Seia, Pampilhosa da Serra, Tábua, Góis, and Covilhã.

ANEPC, in light of the current state of alert, emphasized the prohibition of access and movement in forest areas, the carrying out of burnings and fires, the suspension of issued permits, work in forest areas using any machinery, work in other rural areas, and the use of fireworks or other pyrotechnic devices.
