The Bragança District Command of PSP reported that upon arriving at the scene, they took charge of the incident. Due to the occurrence of fatalities and injuries, the case has been forwarded to the Judiciary Police (PJ) and the Public Prosecutor’s Office.
The Judiciary Police has started collecting evidence at the care home.
The fire broke out around five in the morning, resulting in the deaths of six elderly residents and injuring 25 people, five of whom are in serious condition.
Unharmed residents have been relocated to other care homes operated by the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Mirandela.
