Chega files criminal complaint for vandalism of ‘billboard’ in Matosinhos

Candidates for the Matosinhos City Hall, António Parada, and the Municipal Assembly, Paulo Jorge Alves, announced that a criminal complaint has been filed concerning the destruction of a billboard near the exit of the moveable bridge in Matosinhos.

“This act, which seeks to undermine freedom of expression and equal opportunities in the electoral battle, constitutes an attack on the normal functioning of the democratic process,” they emphasized.

The candidates in the local elections assert that Chega “is not intimidated by undemocratic behaviors” and will continue their campaign with determination.

“We are confident that the people of Matosinhos will respond to these attempts at silencing in the upcoming electoral act,” they concluded.

Candidates for the Matosinhos City Hall include the current mayor, Luísa Salgueiro, from the PS, Bruno Pereira from the PSD, CDU councilman José Pedro Rodrigues, former socialist and independent councilor António Parada for Chega, former president of the Left Bloc (BE) parliamentary group Pedro Filipe Soares, Filipe Garcia for IL, and Diana Sá for Livre.

The current executive consists of seven members elected from the PS, one from the PSD, one independent, one from the António Parada Sim! movement, and one from the CDU.

The local elections are set to take place on October 12.
