
The funeral will take place on Tuesday at 10:30 AM in Covilhã.
Daniel Agrelo, a member of the Covilhã Fire Department, died following a traffic accident late Sunday afternoon while on his way to a rural fire in the region.
The accident occurred at 7:10 PM in the village of São Francisco de Assis, in the municipality of Covilhã, in the district of Castelo Branco.
Several firefighters were also injured, one seriously, who is currently hospitalized in Coimbra and is stabilized.
Daniel Agrelo was married and had one child.
The wake will be held today from 6:30 PM in the hall of the Covilhã Volunteer Firefighters’ Station, with the funeral scheduled for Tuesday at 10:30 AM at the Peso cemetery.
In a social media message, the Prime Minister expressed “deep sadness” over Daniel Agrelo’s death, noting that “Portugal owes much to the firefighters.”
Montenegro also wished a “speedy recovery” to the four injured firefighters from the accident.
The Minister of Internal Administration and her secretaries of state also expressed “deep sorrow and consternation” over the death of the Covilhã firefighter.
