House of AD candidate for the Junta de Custóias in Matosinhos hit by gunfire

The residence of Vasco Costa, a candidate from the AD/Matosinhos coalition (PSD/CDS-PP), suffered damage when a firearm was discharged at approximately 9 a.m., causing a bullet to penetrate the double-glazed window of the dining room.

At the time of the incident, the AD candidate was inside his home and was startled by a “loud bang,” though he remained unharmed.

The PSP police were present at the scene, with the investigation subsequently taken over by the Polícia Judiciária (PJ), according to the coalition’s statement.

“Although there is no certainty of any correlation between the shooting and my candidacy, a complaint was filed against unknown parties,” Vasco Costa remarked, as cited in the communication accompanying photos of the shattered glass.

The AD coalition highlighted that in recent days, several of its candidates in Matosinhos have been subjected to coercion and intimidation.

“Episodes like these do not dignify the exercise of citizenship. The AD stands for a free and transparent democracy, never hindering or placing constraints on supporters or candidates from other political forces,” it emphasized.

Bruno Pereira expressed that the AD remains determined to win the municipal elections in 2025.

Reaffirming confidence in the justice system, the social-democrat urged the creation of a respectful, free, and secure environment, which is essential for democratic practice.

Candidates for the Matosinhos City Hall include the current president, Luísa Salgueiro of the PS, social-democrat Bruno Pereira, CDU councilor José Pedro Rodrigues, former socialist and independent councilor António Parada for Chega, former BE parliamentary group president Pedro Filipe Soares, Filipe Garcia from IL, and Diana Sá for Livre.

The current executive comprises seven members from the PS, one from the PSD, an independent, one from the António Parada Sim! movement, and one from the CDU.

The municipal elections are scheduled for October 12.
