
A fishing boat capsized on Tuesday morning, August 19, off the coast of Praia dos Pescadores in Silvalde, Espinho, according to a source from the Porto Rescue Operations Command.
All four crew members of the vessel were successfully rescued.
Three of them sustained minor injuries and are receiving assistance on site.
The cause of the sinking is currently unknown.
As reported by Jornal de Notícias, the ‘Rita e Carolina’ xávega boat capsized approximately 2 kilometers from shore.
The occupants were able to call for help via mobile phone and were rescued by a smaller boat.
The publication also notes that this was the only xávega boat still in operation in Espinho.
The alert for the accident was given at 8:58 a.m. Seventeen personnel assisted by about ten vehicles, including those from the Espinho Fire Department, INEM, Maritime Police, and Public Security Police (PSP), responded to the incident.
Maria Manuel Cruz, the mayor of Espinho, was also present at the scene.
