The fire at the village of Vale Frechoso in Vila Flor remains a significant and active front, as stated by Pedro Lima. However, it is now burning with less intensity towards an area that was already affected on Monday, as communicated to a news agency.
There has been a calming of the wind, which had been hindering firefighting efforts, according to the local official.
“In the municipality of Vila Flor, we are a bit more at ease,” he mentioned.
Meanwhile, in the Alfândega da Fé municipality, also in the district of Bragança, an active front was reported in Eucísia parish. The fire is moving towards the Complementary Itinerary (IC) 5, causing road closures between Junqueira and Alfândega da Fé, as indicated by the vice-president of the União das Freguesias de Eucísia, Gouveia e Valverde.
“There is an opportunity to extinguish the fire,” said Miguel Vieira, adding that firefighters are positioned on the road to intercept the fire, which is decreasing in intensity.
However, the official expressed concern that the situation could change, as the fire had previously been extinguished but reignited.
“We saw it put out, and suddenly it flared up again. A change in wind direction can alter the scenario completely,” he mentioned.
The fire that broke out in Mirandela on Sunday spread to several villages in the Vila Flor municipality, including Trindade, Benlhevai, Valbom, Santa Comba da Vilariça, and Vale Frechoso.
It also reached the Alfândega da Fé municipality, affecting localities such as Vilares da Vilariça, Vilarelhos, Valverde, and Eucísia.
At 11:15 PM, 350 personnel and 118 vehicles were involved in combating the fire, according to the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority’s website.
