Minors in alcoholic coma on Porto Santo beach. Case goes to the Public Prosecutor’s Office.

Two teenagers were found in an alcohol-induced coma in the early hours of Tuesday on Pedras Pretas beach in Porto Santo.

A young individual alerted the Public Security Police (PSP) about the adolescents in a state of “alcoholic coma,” who appeared unconscious on the sand. In response, the PSP notified the Local Command of the Maritime Police of Porto Santo at 12:30 a.m.

Contacted by Notícias ao Minuto, the National Maritime Authority explained that members of the Maritime Police immediately went to the scene, where a group of youths was spotted. Upon realizing the police’s approach, they quickly dispersed. On-site, the Maritime Police found two young girls prostrate and unconscious on the sand, near the waterline.

The Local Command of the Maritime Police requested assistance through 112, and the Volunteer Firefighters of Porto Santo were dispatched to the location. The teenagers were subsequently taken to the local Health Center, where they received medical care.

According to Jornal da Madeira, the two girls are aged 13 and 15 and exhibited signs of hypothermia. Authorities faced difficulties contacting the girls’ parents, suspecting they might not be on the island.

The same newspaper also reported that the medical team described the situation as “extremely serious.”

Further stated by the National Maritime Authority, the Local Command of the Maritime Police of Porto Santo has filed a report, which is being prepared for submission to the Public Prosecutor’s Office.
