Fire hits Chaves industrial area, tons of firewood burned.

Witnesses at the scene reported that approximately 200 tons of firewood stored at a sales company were largely consumed by a fire.

A significant number of personnel, supported by aerial resources, have been deployed to the scene.

Efforts are concentrated on safeguarding a nearby scrapyard containing flammable materials and a slaughter center.

Propelled by strong winds, the fire, which entered Chaves from Galicia, Spain, on Tuesday, advanced rapidly toward the Cocanha industrial area in the parish of Santa Cruz, Trindade, and Sanjurge, near the city of Chaves.

Employees and business owners were observed using hoses to extinguish flames that reached buildings, including a print shop and agricultural supply store, with assistance from firefighters.

As of 19:10, the National Authority for Emergency and Civil Protection reported 522 operational personnel, 159 ground vehicles, and four aerial units on the ground.

The fire, which entered Chaves from Galicia, Spain, on Tuesday, was under control by 10:35 a.m. today but reignited strongly in the afternoon near the business park in Outeiro Seco, close to several companies.

Strong winds have posed significant challenges in combating the blaze.

On Monday, the fire had already crossed the border in the area of Vilar de Perdizes, in the Montalegre municipality.
