The accident occurred at approximately 3:15 PM today in the area of Canas de Santa Maria, in the municipality of Tondela, Viseu district, resulting in the closure of the IP3 highway in both directions.
The local GNR (National Republican Guard) in Viseu reported that traffic was restored in both directions by 10:00 PM.
The collision involved a passenger car, a Rede Expresso bus traveling from Coimbra to Viseu, and an ambulance from the Tondela Volunteer Firefighters, as previously noted by a GNR source.
The deceased victim is a 54-year-old man who was driving the passenger vehicle.
The same source stated that the 31 injured individuals were bus passengers and were transported to the hospital in Viseu.
“The remaining passengers were taken to the fire station [in Tondela] to continue their journey to Viseu,” the GNR source added.
