On Thursday, the Prime Minister expressed a desire to establish a consensus in the Assembly of the Republic for a pact on forest management and territorial protection, acknowledging that “not everything went well” in fighting the fires.
Chega’s deputy argued that the government’s announced measures are “never sufficient.”
“Although it was announced that all these measures will be taken very quickly, I wonder what ‘very quickly’ means, because animals are indeed without food, people are homeless, and the entire northern region, this whole fire area, is truly in hell,” he stated.
Jorge Galveias also noted that the announced measures “do not touch the essential point, which is the depopulation of the country,” and maintained that if this issue is not addressed, fires will continue to “happen year after year.”
The Chega leader called for “fundamental measures” to tackle depopulation, emphasized the need to “dignify firefighters,” and reiterated the call for the resignation of the Minister of Internal Administration.
