Fires? Measures demonstrate “complete detachment” of the Government

“When we talk about the government’s negligence, we refer to the lack of timely responses to concrete problems, particularly during the current emergency situation regarding wildfires,” stated the union leader.

Speaking at a press conference in Porto, Tiago Oliveira emphasized the government’s “late” and “ideological” response to “specific issues in public services” and the labor sector.

“This situation is emblematic of the current government’s policies, which we have denounced as completely detached from the reality of the people and the country. It shows a lack of awareness of the challenges faced by workers and citizens, neglecting the necessities in public services, the National Health Service, public schools, and Social Security,” he elaborated.

Moreover, the leader of CGTP highlighted the recently announced government measures for revising labor laws, which the central organization views as “an assault on workers’ rights.”

“We have a government completely disconnected from reality, unaware of what it means for 800,000 workers to survive on a minimum wage of 870 euros, taking home approximately 700 euros. It would be worth having the prime minister explain how a family can afford housing today,” he argued.

On Thursday, the government approved a new framework in an extraordinary Council of Ministers meeting in Viseu, outlining 45 measures to be implemented during large-scale wildfires that impact the assets and economy of families and businesses. The initiative aims to swiftly and effectively deploy support measures for affected regions and individuals.
