Sintra City Hall will rehouse eight people displaced after fire at home

Seven adults and one child resided in rented rooms within the apartment where the fire originated, which was rendered uninhabitable.

“Three have already been identified. We are unable to identify the other five because they were not present, and their housemates do not have their contact information,” it was explained, adding that all the documentation of these individuals was destroyed in the fire.

The fire broke out this afternoon at 12:30 PM on the first floor of a four-story building on Rua Aquilino Ribeiro in Agualva-Cacém and has since been extinguished, leading to the evacuation of the entire building.

The Sub-Regional Command of the Lisbon Metropolitan Area reported that the fire resulted in 21 minor injuries, mainly due to smoke inhalation, all of whom required hospital transport.

A source from the Sintra City Council disclosed that one of the victims was a pregnant woman who, in panic, jumped from the second floor, sustaining minor injuries.

The fire necessitated the deployment of 37 personnel, supported by 15 vehicles, including firefighters, National Institute of Medical Emergency (INEM) staff, and PSP officers.
