Current restrictions were initially set to end at 8:00 p.m. today, but they will remain in effect until 8:00 p.m. next Monday, as announced by the Local Health Unit of Alentejo Central (ULSAC).
In a statement issued on its website and sent to the Lusa news agency, the ULSAC explained, “this temporary measure is due to a high influx of patients with complex clinical conditions requiring hospitalization, coupled with a reduction in the available team.”
During this period, the Polivalent Emergency Service at Hospital do Espírito Santo in Évora (HESE) will only accept new admissions in Internal Medicine for “patients referred by CODU/INEM, by other doctors, or via SNS 24.”
Restrictions on patient admissions in the HESE emergency department for this specialty began on the 14th of this month and have been continuously extended since then.
The HESE emergency department also lacked service in Orthopedics for 24 hours, from 8:00 a.m. Thursday to 8:00 a.m. today, due to an unavailable team; however, the situation was resolved today, according to a ULSAC source.
In light of the extended limitations in Internal Medicine at the emergency department, ULSAC urged the public to contact the SNS 24 Line (808 24 24 24) or seek primary health care units to ensure proper referral based on the severity of their condition.
ULSAC also reminded the public that 24-hour care is available at health centers in Vendas Novas, Montemor-o-Novo, and Estremoz, in the Évora district.
