Five universities will have professionals from the Citizen Shops

The initiative “Academic Journey of Public Services,” organized by the Agency for State Technological Reform (ARTE), will commence on August 26 and 27 at the University of Coimbra, aligning with the start of registrations for the 2025/2026 academic year, the entity announced in a statement.

The journey will then continue across other educational institutions: from September 3 to 5, it will be at Nova SBE in Carcavelos; on September 8, it will move to the University of Algarve in Faro; on September 9 and 10, it will be at the University of Minho in Braga; and from September 15 to 19, it will be at the University of Porto.

“During the specified dates, a gov.pt space will be set up at the universities of Coimbra, Algarve, and Minho, where students can access essential public services with the assistance of a specialized team,” ARTE stated.

“At Nova SBE, on the first floor, and at the University of Porto, at the Pólo Zero, the same support and services will be available through the existing Citizen Spaces at these institutions,” it added.

Through this initiative, “students will have the opportunity to immediately address various essential public services on the spot,” such as address changes, activation of the Digital Mobile Key, installation of the gov.pt app with digital document integration (including student and youth cards), requests for Nutritionist and Psychologist Vouchers, the European Health Insurance Card application, and subscriptions to digital newspapers and magazines.

Ultimately, the “Academic Journey of Public Services” aims to support higher education students during this phase by providing essential public services within the academic environment, which play a significant role in their university and personal journey.

“More than just a one-time presence, this initiative reinforces that public services are available to students throughout the year, whether through the Citizen Spaces already installed at the Pólo Zero of the University of Porto or at the Citizen Space Lab at Nova SBE, as well as through the 76 Citizen Shops and over 980 Citizen Spaces available nationwide,” ARTE emphasized.

The journey also presents “an opportunity to introduce the Digital Portugal Academy, which will enable students and faculty to conduct assessments and enroll in free courses to enhance essential digital skills for personal and professional development,” ARTE added.
