“Unqualifiable.” Portugal condemns Israeli attack on hospital in Gaza

“The Israeli attack on Nasser Hospital in Gaza is indefensible. Journalists, civilians, and health professionals must be unconditionally protected,” highlighted the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a post on social media platform X.

The ministry, led by Paulo Rangel, further emphasized in the same statement that “a ceasefire is an imperative of the most basic humanity and can no longer be delayed.”

Several countries today condemned the Israeli attack on Nasser Hospital in Khan Yunis, in the southern Gaza Strip, which killed at least 20 people, including five journalists.

Israel bombed Nasser Hospital this morning, and when journalists and rescuers arrived to assist victims and document the events, it bombed the site again, according to the Ministry of Health in Gaza, using a technique known as “double tap.”

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described the attack as “a tragic accident.”

Today, a sixth journalist, Hasan Douhan of the Palestinian daily Al Hayat, was shot dead in Al Mawasi, southern Gaza.

With Douhan’s death, the total number of reporters and digital influencers killed in the Israeli offensive rises to 246, making the war in Gaza one of the deadliest for the press in history.

Israel has been conducting a military offensive in the Gaza Strip since an attack by Hamas on October 7, 2023, which resulted in about 1,200 deaths and 250 hostages.

According to data released by Palestinian enclave authorities, the offensive launched by Israel in Gaza has resulted in approximately 62,700 deaths.
