A 49-year-old Portuguese driver died in a violent road accident in Lausanne, Switzerland, on Sunday morning. The incident happened on the Bern road near Moudon.
The accident occurred around 7 a.m. on Sunday, August 25. The Portuguese man’s black VW Golf was traveling toward Lucens when it was hit head-on by a delivery van moving in the opposite direction.
For reasons still unclear, the Swiss publication reports that the van veered left before crashing into the Portuguese driver’s vehicle.
The van’s driver, a 24-year-old Swiss citizen, sustained serious injuries and was transported to a hospital. Despite his injuries, he is not in a life-threatening condition.
Meanwhile, the Portuguese driver succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The impact of the collision propelled the Golf several meters, leaving it completely destroyed.
The Public Prosecutor’s Office has opened an investigation to determine the exact circumstances of the accident, which resulted in the road being closed to traffic for several hours.
