This fire in Seia lasted almost until Sunday, although it was initially controlled on Friday. On Saturday, small reignitions required renewed attention, but by Sunday, the risk was virtually minimal.
The fire that broke out in Arganil on the 13th has affected the largest area ever burned in Portugal, with 64,000 hectares consumed, according to the provisional report from the Institute for the Conservation of Nature and Forests (ICNF).
The blaze that began in Piódão, in the municipality of Arganil, Coimbra (and was resolved on Sunday after 11 days), burned an area of 64,451 hectares, according to the provisional national report from the Forest Fire Information Management System (SGIF) of the ICNF, accessed by Lusa.
The report, with the latest update on the burned area made on Sunday, confirms that this fire has affected the largest area ever recorded in Portugal, surpassing the previous record set by the fire that started in Vilarinho, in the municipality of Lousã, in October 2017, which reached 53,000 hectares.
The Arganil fire also impacted the municipalities of Pampilhosa da Serra and Oliveira do Hospital (district of Coimbra), Seia (Guarda), and Castelo Branco, Fundão, and Covilhã (Castelo Branco).
