The cherished month of August, beloved by many Portuguese and emigrants, is nearing its end and seems to be taking the summer with it, although the season officially concludes on September 22.
For Wednesday, August 27, the Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) predicts periods of very cloudy skies in the North and Center, with light rain or drizzle expected on the northern and central coast, becoming more likely in the Minho and Douro Litoral from the afternoon.
Additionally, strong winds are expected along the coastal strip and highlands.
Meteorologists also anticipate a “sharp drop in maximum temperature.” The highest value is expected to be 30ºC in Castelo Branco and Évora.
In the South, the skies will be slightly cloudy or clear, and the wind will vary between light to moderate (up to 30 km/h) from the west/northwest, occasionally strong (up to 40 km/h) along the western coastal strip south of Cabo da Roca, with gusts up to 60 km/h during the afternoon, blowing moderate to strong (30 to 45 km/h) in highlands.
Thermometers will also experience a drop, especially regarding the maximum temperatures, although they will reach up to 31ºC in Faro.
For the Greater Lisbon area, “periods of very cloudy skies, light to moderate wind (up to 30 km/h) from the northwest, occasionally strong (up to 40 km/h) on the coastal strip, and a slight drop in temperature” are expected, with a maximum of 26ºC and a minimum of 17ºC.
Meanwhile, in Greater Porto, “periods of very cloudy skies, light rain or drizzle from mid-afternoon, light to moderate wind (up to 30 km/h) from the west/northwest, and a slight drop in temperature” are forecasted, with a maximum of 22ºC and a minimum of 15ºC.
As today, tomorrow the Portuguese coast will be under alert due to maritime agitation.
