A 35-year-old man was apprehended in flagrante delicto by the Porto Territorial Command of the National Republican Guard (GNR) on August 24 for aggravated theft in the municipality of Santo Tirso.
According to a statement released on Tuesday, the arrest followed a report of a theft at the Church of Monte Córdova in Santo Tirso.
The suspect was “intercepted and detained by locals” at the church until GNR patrols arrived.
“During the police proceedings, it was established that the stolen amount totaled 4,451.26 euros in cash,” the statement noted.
The operation resulted in the suspect’s arrest and “the recovery of the stolen amount.”
The detainee was brought before the Matosinhos Judicial Court, where he was subjected to coercive measures, including mandatory regular appearances at the police station in his residential area, as well as prohibitions and imposed conduct requirements.
